The Columbus Stompers are Columbus' only gay and lesbian country-western dance club.
The Columbus Stompers were founded in 1990 to promote country-western dance in the gay and lesbian community. The club's mission is to support the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community through benefits, fundraisers and the promotion of a positive image. The Stompers also enjoy each other's company through country-western line dancing and couples dancing, special events and competitions.
The Columbus Stompers is a member club of the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Country-Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC), which includes 30 worldwide groups. Since their first competition at the "Kick Ass Jamboree" in Cincinnati in 1990, the Columbus Stompers have competed and performed all around the United States and in Canada from New York to San Francisco and Tampa to Toronto.
In 2004, the Columbus Stompers hosted the IAGLCWDC international hoedown in the Capital City. Hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls came from around the world for a weekend of dancing and socializing.
Every year, the Columbus Stompers donate the proceeds from fundraisers and performances to local community-service organizations.
Becoming a Columbus Stomper is easy! A $30 annual membership fee includes an "internationally-sought-after" Columbus Stompers t-shirt and access to special Stomper outings and trips, and of course the chance to strut your stuff with other club members! Membership forms are available every Thursday at Wall Street Night Club or online here at www.stompers.org.
